How to Become a Certified Business Process Professional (CBPP®)

 

Step 0:  Pre-requisites/Qualifications

See Eligibility and Experience Requirements. There is a major emphasis on experience as a requirement. You will be required to describe in a narrative format that demonstrates your experience in the context of the knowledge areas of the BPM CBOK®.  You will also be required describe the BPM projects, what you did on those projects in terms of the situation and the business processes in focus and what you did to improve or transform the business processes.  If you are not able to meet this experience requirement, it is suggested that you wait to apply and invest the time to acquire the requisite experience.  For those of you who believe you meet the pre-requisite qualifications, you are invited to apply.

Step 1:  Prepare

The CBPP® examination is a very rigorous examination structured according to the BPM knowledge areas found in the Guide to the Business Process Management Common Body of Knowledge (BPM CBOK®) and tests your multidisciplinary knowledge and breadth of experience as a BPM Practitioner.  You certainly can take advantage of the ABPMP membership by joining a Chapter and/or participating in a Chapter study group.  ABPMP International Chapters are uniquely positioned to complement the way you learn best: 

• Study the BPM CBOK® and
• Review the CBPP® (coming soon) Study Guide authored by ABPMP members.
• Attend educational sessions at a local Chapter near you or training from the ABPMP International approved Qualified Training Providers to acquire the BPM skills that you can apply in your organization. (Formal course attendance is not a requirement, but ABPMP International recommends that you attend BPM courses for a well-rounded understanding of BPM.)

Step 2:  Apply

First you must send (email) in your application to the Certification Committee for consideration for the CBPP® Exam (It can take up to 10 business days to review).  You can download the application hereThen after you submit your application, you must pay the application fee (non-refundable) - Click Here to submit application fee.

Non-Refundable US Application Fee:  $75.00

Step 3:  Take the exam

Once your application is approved, you will be sent the url to register and pay for the exam.  You have two options:  1. You can take the exam through your local ABPMP International Chapter or  2. You can take the exam at one of the hundreds of testing locations throughout the world. 

Examination Fee: (refundable for cancellations made 72 hours or more before your scheduled examination.)
Members:  $400
Non-Members:  $550

Candidates will be notified of their scores immediately upon completion of the exam.  Upon successfully completing and passing the exam, you will receive a CBPP® certification diploma from your appropriate Chapter representative, otherwise it will be mailed to your address on file. 

Step 4:  Maintain your credentials.

The ABPMP International requires that you keep your certification up to date by participating in BPM-related training and/or activities and paying a $75 application fee, both of which are required to renew your certification.

Recertification

  • Recertification required every 3 years
    • 60 hours of continuing professional education activities required
    • Or retake exam

    • Writing, Presenting, Teaching

 

The CBPP® is unique in our rapidly changing market place.  This certification has been developed by and for BPM practitioners.  It is the first independent professional examination and certification program in the area of BPM.  CBPP® has been designed to comply with international certification standards and is now the internationally recognized standard for BPM professionals.   The certification will initially be offered by ABPMP through our chapters and affiliates worldwide, representing the largest qualified constituency of BPM practitioners today.

BPM Certification means that an individual has:

  • Achieved appropriate professional experience and/or education;
  • Passed a rigorous examination;
  • Agreed to abide by a professional code of conduct;
  • Committed to maintaining an active credential through meeting continuing professional development requirements.

Experience Qualification

  • 4 Years
  • Process management, Process improvement, or Process transformation experience
  • Documented experience and qualifications
  • References

Education

  • Undergraduate degree – no additional credit
  • Graduate degree, 6 months credit

Other Professional Certification, e.g., PMP, CBAP

  • 6 months credit
