How to Become a Better Process Architect

Business Process Management or BPM brings a lot of benefits to the table. It helps improve a company’s operational efficiency, boosts innovation, and even tackle detailed tasks such as enhancing customer experience. With the market being as competitive as it is today, these benefits are too good to miss.

For Business Process Management to be effective, a good process architect is needed. There is an increasing demand for specialists in this field. Professionals with process architecture background now fill key roles like COO and Executive Vice President. So, how can you become a better process architect and be effective in managing business processes?

Good Observation

Every process improvement starts with analyzing the existing workflow. A good process architect must be able to observe that workflow and find ways to further improve the process for maximum efficiency. The ability to observe in great details is a key skill to have.

There are several ways to master this skill too. Practice is usually the best way to go, although there are short courses and specific BPM programs designed to help managers and process architects perform better when analyzing existing processes.

There are also BPM models designed to help managers observe and analyze the existing operational workflows. The more you use these models, the better you will be at spotting inefficiencies in existing processes.

Leadership

Another must-have skill if you want to be a great process architect is leadership. You don’t only need to make an adjustment to existing processes. You also need to implement the new workflows. This means influencing every part of the company to comply with the new workflows and operating at a much higher efficiency.

A lot of successful managers actually spent time pursuing a master’s degree from top universities such as Norwich University to master leadership. Many programs, including the Norwich University masters in executive leadership, are designed to help managers acquire the skills and knowledge needed to become great leaders.

There are also courses in Business Process Management that will help prepare process architects for the job. Earning the Certified Business Process Leadership (CBPL) title is a great way to prove that you have what it takes to become a fantastic process architect.

An Eye for the Future

Business Process Management is a rapidly changing field, which is why any good process architect must also have the ability to look far into the future and anticipate big changes in the market. For a company’s business process to remain efficient, it needs to be flexible enough to adapt to changes happening on the market.

Designing an improved business process is not just about making the existing process more efficient. It is also about making the new process equally efficient under different circumstances. This is why the Certified Business Process Professional or CBPP and the CBPL certifications emphasize the use of technology and modern solutions as part of the training.

Master these three skills and you will be a great process architect. Continue to sharpen these skills and you’ll be promoted to the rank of Chief Process Architect sooner than you think.
